EJ HENDERSON YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP
The purpose of the Youth Football Camp is to promote teamwork, encourage student athletic success, and teach football skills to youth who might not otherwise have this opportunity. The camp provides an environment of learning and fun. The EJHYF has been offering the Youth Football Camp since 2007 with 2011 marking its fifth year.
ANNUAL TURKEY GIVEAWAY
Since 2008, the EJHYF coordinates an annual Turkey Giveaway event in North Minneapolis in November at Cub Foods on Broadway Avenue. The goal of the Turkey Giveaway is to engage with the North Minneapolis community and assist families who are struggling during the holiday season by providing turkeys and trimmings. In 2011, the EJHYF partnered with Cub Foods, Jennie-O Turkey’s, General Mills, Standard Heating and Air Conditioning, Kemps, Brooks & Company Produce, Kellogg’s, Comcast, Edward Jones Mortgage, Kids Against Hunger, Jerry’s Enterprises and many community leaders and volunteers to serve over 3,500 families.
HOLIDAY ADOPT-A-FAMILY INITIATIVE
The purpose of this initiative is to assist families in need in the Twin Cities metro during the holiday season. This event assists 15 families with gifts and trimmings during December of each year. This initiative launched in 2008 and 2011 will mark the fourth annual Holiday Adopt-A-Family Initiative.
EJHYF COMMUNITY WEDNESDAYS
New in 2011, the EJ Henderson Youth Foundation will launch community Wednesdays through partnership with colleges or universities in the Twin Cities. Community Wednesdays will serve as an opportunity for coaches and mentors to bring youth to participate in a one-day EJHYF fitness, education, and life skills package and create an opportunity for youth to be recruited into the year round EJHYF Youth Program.
